Touring can be an exciting and extremely rewarding process. For presenting organisations and venues it is an excellent way of building a sense of community, providing fantastic opportunities for their audiences, local arts groups and schools, and above all, can quite simply be a great night out.
For companies producing work touring provides opportunities to build connections within many communities, increase the profile of the company and artists involved, extend the life of productions and at the same time see a bit more of Australia.
Before deciding to tour there are a number of things to consider. In particular it's important to think about the resources that are required and the resources that you have available, the technical and logistic implications and marketing.
A number of organisations exist to assist with this process. Some of these are listed on this page. Similarly APACA has developed a Guide to Touring and a Touring Code of Conduct which provide information about touring in APACA venues.
