Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House is a focal point in the Australian performing arts scene and a place where outstanding art is created and presented by extraordinary artists from around the world.

It is the primary venue in Sydney for many of Australia’s leading performing arts companies, including the Sydney Symphony, The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia and Sydney Dance Company. Not only do we act as a venue to these leading companies, Sydney Opera House produces its own programs and aims to develop many non-traditional art forms and celebrate artists from different cultural backgrounds and disciplines.

Sydney Opera House has seven venues, including the Concert Hall, the Opera Theatre, the Drama Theatre, the Playhouse, The Studio, our newest space, the spectacular Utzon Room, and the Forecourt.

The Concert Hall is the largest interior venue at the Sydney Opera House with capacity for 2,600 and designed primarily for acoustic performances.

The Utzon Room is a dramatic new venue with architect Jørn Utzon’s signature features of natural timbers and finishes, and a specially designed 14-metre floor-to-ceiling, brightly coloured woollen tapestry. The Utzon Room is a multi-purpose venue with quality acoustics suitable for a range of events.

The Studio venue is fully curated by Sydney Opera House Producers’ Unit and presents a range of contemporary performances across all genres, showcasing the work of emerging artists. The Studio program is one of ten performance, exhibition and commission programs presented by Sydney Opera House and fully funded by the commercial activities of the House.
